While the change in color of teeth is natural and often happens with age, there are some ways by which you can slow down the process. The white color of teeth is rendered by outer enamel, and when those layers wear out, the insider layer with dentin is visible. This layer is made of calcified tissue, which is slightly yellow.

- Brush using baking soda
Baking soda is a very common ingredient in commercial toothpaste because of its natural whitening properties. It’s mildly abrasive and helps scrub away the stains on the teeth’ surface, thereby making them white and shiny. While the difference will not be visible overnight, you will certainly be able to tell after using baking soda when you brush regularly for some weeks. The higher the baking soda concentration, the better will be the whitening effect and quicker will be the results. It has also been known that toothpaste with baking soda removes plaque from the teeth more effectively than toothpaste without baking soda. For best results, one should brush teeth with a paste made of 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 2 teaspoons of water apart from brushing with regular toothpaste. - Oil pulling
Oil pulling is traditionally an Indian folk remedy in which one removes dirt, bacteria, and debris from the mouth by washing the mouth with oil. While it cannot be considered a substitute for brushing the teeth normally, it has been observed that oil pulling has shown significant results in changing back the color of teeth, and thus it is one of the most effective tips to whiten teeth fast. The American Dental Association exclaims that while there are no scientific studies to prove the effectiveness of oil pulling, it could be considered unconventional dentistry. The suitable oils used most commonly for oil pulling are coconut oil, sunflower oil, and sesame oil. - Brush and floss regularly
Brushing and flossing every day is very important. It is important to brush but to ensure that the whitening of teeth happens correctly, one has to reach the gum line between the gum and the teeth. It must be ensured that brushing and flossing should be done just with the right amount of effort and aggression. One should make sure that it is not too aggressive that it damages the enamel. - Use hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching agent that has the properties to kill the bacteria in the mouth. It is also present in many commercial products to whiten teeth, although the concentration could be higher than one should be using. For best results, one can combine baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth.
